Mentoring Program

  • The Alpha G.E.N.T.S. Mentorship Program is composed of a carefully selected group of young men, ages thirteen through seventeen, who demonstrate the following positive attributes: leadership ability, scholastic enthusiasm, gentlemanly conduct, public decorum, cultural awareness, moral discipline, neat appearance, and civic responsibility. In addition, Alpha G.E.N.T.S. participants are expected to be proficient in both oral and written communication.

Established under the auspices of the Delta Rho Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., in San Antonio, Texas, this program engages highly motivated young men in cultural enrichment, historical awareness, and the continued development of leadership qualities they already possess. Participants will interact with peers of similar potential and will be challenged to embrace the responsibility of becoming ambassadors of academic excellence and student leadership in their schools, as well as representatives of goodwill within their families, churches, and communities.

The Fraternity seeks to provide these young men with an organized environment in which they can display their talents and reasoning skills outside the traditional school setting. A structured program—including motivational speakers, roundtable discussions, special assignments, and educational field trips—is designed to reinforce the positive values instilled by their parents, the academic knowledge gained in school, and the spiritual grounding developed through religious participation. Each participant will also be paired with a mentor from the Delta Rho Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

In summary, Alpha G.E.N.T.S. members are young men committed to the challenge of becoming better leaders and role models among their peers. At the conclusion of each academic year, parents and guests will be invited to attend the annual public Rites of Passage Program, a ceremony that honors senior Alpha G.E.N.T.S. who have successfully completed their leadership and academic requirements. Special academic awards will also be presented to program participants.

  • You, as parents, play a central role in the success of this program. Your involvement in the Parents Support Group helps both the Participants and the Chapter Directors develop meaningful civic, cultural, scholastic, and social activities that support the full development of each young man. Because you have already instilled in your sons the qualities needed to become strong leaders, dedicated students, and responsible citizens, we—the members of the Delta Rho Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.—consider it a privilege to work with them. We appreciate the trust you place in us as we guide these outstanding young men to serve as positive peer role models in all their endeavors.

Please know that parents and members of the general public are always welcome and encouraged to attend Alpha G.E.N.T.S. sessions. Rest assured that we, as Men of Alpha, remain steadfast in our commitment to making this program an enriching experience for the Participants and a lasting success for the youth we serve.

If you are the parent or legal guardian of a young man between the ages of 13 and 17, and both you and your son can meet these requirements and uphold these expectations, we invite you to take the next step toward joining the program.

  • To participate in this program, you may submit an application if your son is interested in joining the Alpha G.E.N.T.S. Program. If you have additional questions, please see Point of Contact section.
